Chk Chk Boom has been the story of the week, and this whole sorry episode should be taught in journalism schools for years to come.

For those who have been living under a rock this week. I'll paraphrase the whole affair.

Guy gets shot in Kings Cross, Clare the bogan spouts racist garbage to a Channel 9 cameraman, video goes on 9MSN website and then goes viral on youtube. A couple of days later it turns out that the bogan did not even witness the shooting.

With plenty of media outlets falling for this fraud, you'd think they would have had a damn good look at themselves and think seriously about the ideas of who is a credible source.

Instead A Current Affair and Caroline Overington somehow manage to turn this bogan, from a lying mischief maker, into a hero. They even gave Clare the bogan a massive platform to self promote.

Overington was particularly nauseating on ACA, celebrating Clare the bogans fame. Overington's response represents everything journalism shouldn't be.

It seems pretty clear that Overington values fame more than accuracy. Ratings at the expense of the public good. If you can make a buck no matter how dubious the method, that's fine. Screw credibility if you can deliver a racist message in a sexy style.

Fuck off Overington. You' re a bigger embarrassment than the bullshitting bogan.
