A few days ago I asked how Liberal branches could throw up a candidate like the anti-semitic conspiracy theorist Ken Aldred.

I mean, how the hell could anyone vote for him, let alone the majority of a local branch who should know a little bit about politics?

Here is your answer, and for my local readers it has got a very interesting twist.

"Bev McArthur, who is married to federal MP Stewart McArthur and holds a spot on the state party's administrative committee, is refusing to vote to dump Mr Aldred as Liberal candidate."

"Sources told The Australian Ms McArthur was backing Mr Aldred despite the furore over his record of unsubstantiated attacks on prominent Jewish leaders."

Ms McArthur has come under increasing pressure to publicly renounce Mr Aldred but has so far refused.

"Is she going to stick by a guy who's a racist and an anti-Semite?" one source said yesterday.

Well folks it seems the answer to that question is, yes. Bev abstained from the vote by not showing up to the meeting that disendorsed the guy who met with members of the La Rouche group.

If The Australian's story is accurate, I think Bev McArthur's behaviour is a disgrace and voters of Corangamite should be told about this.

Now I know plenty of local journos read this blog so I'll make it easy on you.

So it appears that anti-Jewish sentiment down Geelong way is not restricted to the Ocean Grove Footbrawlers!

Surely any long-surviving politician should be smart enough not to publicly support an anti-Semitic La Rouchian, irrespective of the views that they may hold deep down in the place where their hearts should be?

Let us know if any of the local Councils propose Citizen Initiated Referenda!

A CEC-Liberal meeting. That's strange considering the anti-Howard/Liberal propaganda the CEC has been publishing.

I guess even Howard is not extreme enough for them.

the scary thing is, the local media haven't done a follow up.
